We have been a council panel contractor here for over two decades, and we understand the documentation and compliance requirements that come with government contracts.
Road pavement construction is not the same as laying a carpark. Traffic loading, design life, drainage requirements and surfacing specifications all differ. We bring in-house plant including our Caterpillar 140 grader to achieve the precise levels required before any asphalt is placed. The wider civil construction scope sits with the same crew: earthworks, kerb and gutter and stormwater drainage are all in house, so levels tie together instead of being handed between subcontractors.
Our crews work to traffic management plans on live roads without cutting corners on safety or specification. Every road job is delivered with full compaction records, test results and handover documentation to council or RMS requirements. Road work is one of the scopes worth putting plant on a float for. We build it up around Newcastle, Lake Macquarie and Maitland, and down in Hornsby Shire, to the same records and specification.

Anatomy of a road built to spec
A road pavement is a deeper stack than any driveway, because the loading is measured in trucks, not cars. Here is what sits under a council road built to specification.
- AC14 wearing course 40mm min
Dense-graded asphalt with 14mm maximum aggregate, the surface traffic actually runs on. AC10 on quiet residential streets, AC14 where the loading is heavier.
- AC20 binder course
Coarser structural asphalt placed in lifts beneath the wearing course. A driveway skips this layer entirely. Its depth comes from the traffic design, not a price list.
- Prime coat
Sprayed bitumen that soaks into the finished base, sealing it and bonding the asphalt to the granular pavement below.
- DGB20 base course 200mm
Dense-graded 20mm crushed rock compacted in lifts with density testing at each stage. A residential driveway runs 150mm of the same material. A road carries trucks, so the spec deepens.
- DGS40 sub-base and subgrade 300mm
Coarse 40mm crushed rock over a trimmed formation compacted to 98 percent standard density and tested, not eyeballed. Crossfall is built in from the subgrade up so water sheds to the kerb instead of sitting under the pavement.
Roads fail from the bottom, not the top. Base depth and documented compaction testing decide whether a pavement sees out its design life or comes back as a defect notice.

Are you an approved contractor for Central Coast Council works?
Yes. We have held council panel contractor status on the Central Coast for over 20 years and carry all required insurances, licences and compliance documentation for government works.
Do you take on general civil construction, or only road works?
Both. Road pavement is the largest part of what we do, but the same crew handles earthworks, kerb and gutter, stormwater drainage and the final asphalt seal. Where a project needs the whole civil scope under one contract, that is how we prefer to run it. Send through the drawings and we will tell you straight which parts we self-perform.
What asphalt mix types do you use for road construction?
We use AC10 for residential roads, AC14 for collector and arterial roads, and open-graded mixes where noise reduction or drainage is specified. Mix selection is always driven by the project specification.
Can you manage traffic control as part of the contract?
We coordinate traffic management and can arrange accredited traffic controllers as part of the overall project. We prepare Traffic Management Plans to RMS requirements for all live-road works.
